Goodbye from Rarely Wears Lipstick
I was trying to write over the weekend and have realised that I’ve been treating my blog like a friend you always cancel on. I keep making plans that I don’t follow through on, jotting down lists of ideas and then failing to find the motivation to write up the posts. This poor site is neglected and I feel bad about that, so I think I need to end it. Rarely Wears Lipstick is past its best and I need to put it out of its misery. Its reason for being was always to be a forum for my writing, but… I don’t think I enjoy that type of writing any more.
I’ve been writing online since 2002, but this blog began back in March 2003 as a somewhat unstructured collection of personal thoughts on a vanity domain. Back then, my blog posts were rather like long form versions of my tweets but a few years writing for online women’s magazine BitchBuzz helped to hone my writing skills and also created a desire to change my blog’s format. The current magazine-style reincarnation sprung into life in 2009 as a forum to discuss fashion, feminism, sex/relationships and creativity. I celebrated a decade of blogging in 2013 with the Rarely Wears Lipstick Awards which provided an excuse to celebrate the talents of some rather wonderful people and to gather together many of the fabulous folk I’ve met in the course of my online writing career.
Much as I would love to make it to my 20 year blogging anniversary, I’m now completely out of steam. Updating this site feels like a chore and I’ve realised that’s a sign that it’s time to move on. So, changes are afoot and I’ll be coming up with a trimmed down online presence for the future. Very soon, you will be able to keep up with the culinary adventures of Brunch Club over at brunchclub.london (once I’ve finished setting it up!), but over here it’s time for an old skool hiatus until my hosting is up for renewal.
Farewell lovely readers xx
UPDATE: I’m going to copy the final few reviews over from brunchclub.london so that you can find a complete record of the Brunch Club adventures here at RWL. This means it’ll look like I have updated the site since February 2019 (as I’ll keep the original post dates), but I think I’m cool with that.
