Win tickets to the Irreverent Dance Showcase!
Last July, I wrote about how my first adventures with Irreverent Dance (then in its infancy) resulted in me learning more ballet than I thought I could in 8 classes. This summer, I told you about how a bunch of us danced through central London as part of the annual Pride parade. Now, to celebrate 18 months of helping people to reconnect with their bodies and find their confidence through one of many dance styles, Irreverent Dance is hosting its first ever Showcase Performance tomorrow, Sunday 17th November, in south London. You are all invited to come along to support these wonderful dancers, see what a fantastic community Irreverent Dance (ID) has built up, and to discover just how much fun you could have while learning to dance in a safe and encouraging environment. Showcase organiser and ID founder, Amanda Leon-Joyce, says about this weekend’s show:
We have LGBTQ swingers, same-sex latin dancing, collar-popping Ushers, camp stormtroopers, ballet-androids, UV staff spinning, 90’s-lesbian hip hop, and that’s barely scratching the surface.
40 Irreverent Dancers will be taking to the stage and being distinctly irreverent about: Ballet, Tap, Latin, Swing, Broadway, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Circus, body-fascism and the gender binary. If you want an idea of what that might look like, check out what happened the last time an ID performance group got together…
I have a pair of tickets to give away to this wonderful event! To be in with a chance of winning, simply complete this sentence: “If I could dance like anyone, it would be…” Leave your entries in the comments box below – or tweet your entry to @lipsticklori using the #IDshowcase13 hashtag – before 10pm GMT today. I will ask a representative from the ID team to choose a winner and will let you know by the end of the day. The show is happening on Sunday 17th November from 6:30pm at LOST Theatre, 208 Wandsworth Road, London SW8 2JU. If you don’t win, you can buy your tickets here. Remember, even if you can’t make it to the show, someone you know might be able to so please spread the word!
